OVERHAULING HR FOR NEXT-LEVEL SUCCESS
The company experienced significant growth over a 6 year period and found that they needed to overhaul their business strategy, organizational capabilities, processes, and process functions. Management’s goal was to create a more contemporary and North American company, ultimately to generate next-level success.
They were able to enthusiastically address these major business changes, with the exception of their Human Resources department. To implement a successful modernization of their HR strategies and processes, they contacted East Tenth Group for help.
The East Tenth Group Team met with their CEO, Mike, to better understand the company, their mission, and the direction the business was heading. From here, East Tenth Group designed a comprehensive approach which began with reviewing the company’s current HR practices and led assessments of where they wanted it to go.
Through an interactive process, company leaders agreed on the priorities and a reasonable timeline for the HR overhaul. From there, a plan to address the agreed-upon elements was developed. It included five parts:
Talent Acquisition: Because of the business growth, the company’s employee base was growing, too. However, the existing resources, experience sets, capabilities, and caliber level needed was beyond what the HR team was used to recruiting for. This meant that the hiring process was lengthy, with a lot of time and money being invested in headhunters rather than on contemporary hiring methods like social media and other savvier inputs.
To address this issue, East Tenth Group outlined a plan that addressed the key elements of proactive hiring and recommended a strategy that optimized these points.
Administration and Record Keeping: The HR team had not previously maintained efficient records of current employees or information on potential candidates and their interviews that could easily be referred back to later on in the hiring process.
East Tenth Group worked with the company’s HR Director to source a third party Applicant Tracking System that effectively organized candidate information in one place, provided guidance on a new Human Resource Information System (HRIS), and implemented a payroll service for a more integrated employee database.
Employee Recognition: An employee survey highlighted that the company needed to better recognize the accomplishments of its employees. East Tenth Group helped them research and settle on an innovative company recognition program that was customized to their needs.
Auditing HR Capabilities: As the company operates as an autonomous, entrepreneurial subsidiary, they did not have the necessary infrastructure, processes, and disciplines needed to match the size of the business. In addition, the company had a broader goal of being recognized as a choice employer in their state.
To set the business in their desired direction, they required a basic audit of HR practices. East Tenth Group led them through this process, helping them achieve their broader company vision, and determine their next stages of work.
Develop a Human Resource Strategy and Functional Plan: Over the company’s 6 year growth period, they had developed formalized plans for all business functions, lacking the same for HR. East Tenth Group led the process of creating a formal plan for HR that successfully supported their business strategy.
